All-Electric Dodge Charger Daytona SRT

The soon-to-be-unveiled Dodge Charger EV promises to be a muscle car through and through, with enough horsepower to rival the street-dominating Hellcat and Red-Eye in its all-electric powertrain. Dodge has been hinting at an electric muscle car for some time, and the new concept looks realistic enough to achieve that goal.

The Newest Design Concepts

The photos released by Dodge indicate that the Daytona SRT EV will be one mean muscle machine. At first glance, it looks like a futuristic Challenger, with its two-door design, Challenger-inspired front grille, and a new Daytona-inspired R-wing front lower spoiler meant to increase the aerodynamics in the front end. The rest of the exterior evokes the original Charger silhouette with its smooth lines and athletic stance.

Banshee Power

So far, we know that the Charger SRT EV is meant to rival the Hellcat and Red-Eye in the horsepower department. While those are some pretty big shoes to fill, Dodge’s new powertrain designs seem promising. The Daytona SRT will have an 800-volt electrical architecture Nick Named “Banshee.” This will be twice the voltage of most all-electric powered vehicles, allowing for faster charging, better cooling, and lighter wiring. The New Dayton SRT will come standard in all-wheel drive, with six-piston brakes, and will most likely come with regenerative braking. While no specs have been released for the first all-electric member of the Dodge muscle car family, the engineers at Dodge claim the Daytona SRT will outperform the Hellcat in every aspect. That’s a bold claim considering the Hellcat with the Jailbreak package tops out at 807 horsepower and has a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds.

The traditional muscle car experience.

There is just something about the muscle car experience that spikes your adrenalin level, the howl of the engine, and the slamming of the gears as you downshift and brake into a hairpin turn. Some of the aesthetics are lost when you transition to the all-electric arena. To keep the muscle car enthusiasts inspired, the Charger Daytona SRT EV has a few niceties to keep that muscle car “rush” going strong in the all-electric world.

For those who have never driven an all-electric vehicle, they are very quiet, almost entirely silent. It’s hard to imagine a muscle car that doesn’t have that distinctive high-octane “Growl” for that reason; Dodge has incorporated an emulated exhaust system, cranking out authentic-sounding muscle car howls to keep the ride enjoyable. The “ Frantzonic” chambered exhaust system turns the Daytona EV’s gentle electric motor hum into 126-decibels of Hellcat-inspired screams.

Another novelty feature is the eRupt transmission. A multi-speed electro-mechanical transmission design gives the feel of distinct shift pints rather than the smooth transition you get in all-electric vehicles. This gives you that familiar “jerking” feel when changing gears in a traditional gas-powered muscle car.

Other Details

The interior designs seem sleek and modern, with lightweight seats, ample cargo space, and basic infotainment amenities like touchscreens and digital gauges. There are rumors of a hatchback rendition with fold-flat rear seats; we are sure to see several trim levels available once the car is ready to hit the showrooms with various levels of safety and driver assist options which will most likely match currently available Charger and Challenger models. Can’t you just imagine driving around Oklahoma City, Edmond, and Norman in one of these EV muscle cars? Until then, you’ll have to check out the current models at Bob Moore Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM.
